NASA’s SOFIA Observatory visits Christchurch

Dr Jordan Alexander has the ride of a lifetime on NASA plane – 14 July 2017

An invitation from the US Embassy was eagerly accepted by Dr Jordan Alexander.  It was the opportunity to join a flight aboard SOFIA - the Stratospheric Observatory For Infrared Astronomy.  This is a wide bodied jumbo jet fitted out with a 2.5-m diameter optical telescope used to conduct observations of cosmic objects such as star formation areas, the centre of our Galaxy, and nearby planetary systems.
