World Summit Awards (WSA) 2011 - New Zealand finalists selected

IRASR is the winner in the category of e-Science and Technology. As reported in e-Science & Technology: New Zealand - A Window to Radio Universe:'

The rapid and challenging establishment trajectory of this new e-Science project serves as a model for engagement in megascience by resource-limited institutions and nations. Over the past three years Auckland University of Technology, New Zealand's youngest University, has managed to take advantage of New Zealand's remote geographic location to build a world class radio astronomical observatory. Not only has this added significantly to observational power in the Pacific, but by utilising new fibre connections within New Zealand and across the Tasman Sea, the facility has now been linked all around the Pacific from Seattle to Japan, Korea and as far as Western Australia.'

Hon Steven Joyce, Minister for Communications and Information Technology, congratulates the finalists.
